Floodstock Sand Sculpture Creation and Progress Viewed Through Live Streaming Media!
Cedar Rapids, Iowa-The sand is back, but this time around spectators will enjoy it in the form of a fifty ton tribute to Floodstock—a day into evening musical fundraiser scheduled for Saturday June 13th in Greene Square Park. Thanks to the generous technical work of StratosFour, viewers can visit http://www.stratosfour.com/floodstock to view via live streaming media the progress of this impressive piece!
"The sculpture is the opportunity for our community to enjoy sand, rather than using it to battle the flood as so many did last year," explains Cedar Rapids Downtown District’s Events Director Jill Wilkins.
Ted Seibert from The Sand Sculpture Company began building the masterpiece during the June 6 Downtown Farmers’ Market. The work of art will take shape throughout the week, with completion scheduled for Friday June 12.
The giant sculpture will feature a rock band surrounded by the popular Floodstock logo. The special sand mixture along with protective gloss will preserve it for up to two months.
The Sand Sculpture Company is a full-time professional display company that specializes in creating custom sand sculptures worldwide for all events and occasions. The art of sand sculpting is a unique promotion of "artists in action"; one that is intriguing to all ages. Check out past works at www.sandsculpting.com.
Through collaboration and promotion of the anniversary from organizations and individuals throughout the community, RIVERenaissance-A Flood Anniversary offers 35 different opportunities to acknowledge the one year mark of the June 2008 floods, all promoting our community's story of progress in conjunction with the message of continued need for the rebuild and recovery that remains. Visit www.downtowncr.org to download the master calendar including headline and affiliated RIVERenaissance events.

New Internet-Based Educational Tool Helps Processors Learn the Benefits, Features and Pitfalls of Selecting Industrial Mixer Designs
Marion, Iowa, January 21, 2009 – Marion Mixers Inc. is launching an industry-first online industrial mixer tool that will begin the mixer selection process for processors across the globe. Manufacturers in the food, chemical, plastics and mineral industries will now be able to utilize the Marion Mixers Build-A-Mixer (BAM) to quickly identify the correct industrial mixer for their application mixing needs.
The program includes a systematic process for quantifying customer needs and identifying equipment design solutions. The tool is also designed to help users define and document the scope of their equipment needs. The site is offered as an educational resource for prospective customers to learn the benefits, features and pitfalls of various equipment designs.
An online application, the BAM will take the inputs end-users submit and apply known science and proprietary algorithms to select a specific starting mixer for their application. It's fast, efficient and will streamline the design, quotation and documentation process for plant engineers and equipment buyers and can be utilized with a known application process or brand new one.
"Industrial mixers are used for any number of various applications from making bread to making concrete," said Scott Jones Marketing Manager of Marion Mixers. "We focus on custom designed, horizontal mixing equipment. Because of this narrow focus, we have experience with 1,000's of different applications. After a few key pieces of data are entered, the application software will select an ideal mixer for their needs. It gives our customers a huge head start in the sales process."
"Marion Mixers has over 70 years of experience and it was that experience that we tried to build into the application," said Richard Moffitt of development firm StratosFour. "One of our greatest challenges was taking the knowledge and experience of this incredible custom engineering team in Marion and trying to normalize it into a specific format useable by their customers on the Internet."
The application is a starting point for current and future customers of Marion Mixers. The end-users are able to log into the application any time of day, from anywhere in the world. They are guided through a series of questions and inputs which identify their manufacturing process and specific needs. The Marion Mixers engineering team as well as the end user is provided with an initial specifications sheet for each mixer application.
"We follow a proven '6-step' development process for each customer" said Doug Grunder, President of Marion Mixers. "Using our exclusive online 'Build a Mixer' program consisting of product and process design software enables us to quickly identify customer needs."
For additional information on the Build-A-Mixer (BAM) application contact Scott Jones or visit www.marionmixers.com or give it a try at www.marionmixers.com/bam.

Medina, Minn, December 08, 2008 – Polaris Industries Inc. has launched the first of many webcast training sessions for their dealerships focused on their newest ATV products, the Sportsman 850 and 550 XP. Through a combination of video, presentations, and interactive question and answer sessions, Polaris delivered a high-quality training program allowing dealers to feel comfortable with servicing the new vehicles.
Utilizing webcasting technology to deliver these training sessions resulted in a reduction of the number of infield service trainings from 36 to six, increasing efficiency and providing savings to both the company and its dealers. Technicians now can stay in the shop longer where they generate profit for the dealers and owners can save the associated travel costs.
"Polaris is committed to operational excellence by providing new and easier ways to communicate efficiently with our dealer network," said Bill Fisher, chief information officer/vice president of Dealer Services, Polaris Industries. "This effort is defining the standard for what training can be and is a great benefit to the dealerships. There has never been a more important to save time and money, and this delivery method saves Polaris and dealers significant time and money."
To provide the webcasting, Polaris turned to industry leader StratosFour, Inc. (Cedar Rapids, IA) for the necessary tools and bandwidth. "The pre-production and planning made all the difference," said Richard Moffitt, account executive for StratosFour. "We work with the clients to thoroughly understand not only their needs, but the needs of their audience."
The training is available for12 months online, allowing for continued training for new technicians and as a refresher for anyone else within the Polaris network.
"Offering online training has improved dealer response due to both the ease of participating and decrease of travel cost," said Laurie Rengel, manager of Polaris Service Dealer Development. "The increased response will ensure more dealers are aware of quality improvements on our new ATVs and, if needed, have the knowledge to troubleshoot and fix issues quickly."

We are very excited to have moved into our new office, located in the heart of downtown Cedar Rapids. Growth and progress continue downtown as more businesses return and reopen their doors. We are proud to be part of the revival of Cedar Rapids.
It has been a long, challenging process for businesses and residents affected by the flood to return to some form of normalcy. We feel fortunate to be at that point, knowing that so many are not. Our building took in 17 feet of water; our offices were in the basement and completely submerged. Thankfully we were able to move most everything up to higher ground before the water came. We are proud to say that our webcasting and web conferencing services continued with 100% availability during and after the flood.
View more flood pictures.
We again want to thank everyone for their encouragement and support during and after the flood. A big thank you to the Cedar Rapids Downtown District for organizing the reunion lunches and sponsoring the "We're Back" banners.
